Google’s New Business Model – stratēchery by Ben Thompson
There’s been a theme emerging with Google’s acquisition of Nest last week that this represents Google becoming more serious about the consumer device space. Ben Thompson illustrates why that might be and what benefits it has for Google. One thing is for sure, in acquiring Nest they purchased a slew of ex-Apple experts all at once, who have proven they can build a desirable consumer device that can scale to move in huge numbers. If Google is getting serious about the consumer space, it’s hard to see a better path forward.
