Ben Thompson – himself a Microsoft alum who worked on windows phone – furthers the earlier post from Matt Drance by calling the Nokia buy “the deal that makes no sense.” He posits a very likely theory: Nokia was either going out of business or going over to Android. Either of these are basically a complete death blow to Windows Phone and so Microsoft felt compelled to save their OS by saving their only real partner left. This answers the ‘what’s in it for Microsoft’ question rather well – though the answer still remains at ‘essentially nothing’ however.
